Gary Wang, McGill Students Fashion Club President. Photography by Hannah Taylor and Haley MacCosham.
McGill Students Fashion Club is proud to bring you our Spring/Summer 2017 photo shoot. The winter has been bleak, but we were lucky to finally catch a beautiful day. We took this opportunity to head over to the Mile End. This unique Montreal neighborhood has been the home to many famous artists such as Arcade Fire and Mordecai Richler.
There are also many great locales to visit in this area, such as bakeries and clothing shops. You will find establishments that sell unique books and hand-made ornaments. And the shopkeepers have fascinating stories that they’d be more than happy to share. Of course, food and coffee here is great, with many distinct eateries and famous bagel shops. Definitely check out this lively artistic area bustling with interesting things to see and experience.
We found ourselves in residential areas to get a feeling of everyday life in this neighborhood. Incidentally, there were some cool murals exhibited in our photos.

“Getting that t-shirt was truly a trial. UPS dropped it off at a hospital 10 minutes from my place, where they promptly ‘lost it,’ and I spent a week wading through the bureaucratic tides before I found it stuffed into my mailbox on a fine Friday afternoon.”

“LeftHandLA is a one-woman operation based in Los Angeles, CA that designs and makes custom 1 of 1 pieces for celebrities, rappers and common-folk such as myself.”
“For this photoshoot, My outfit consisted of a Navy blue blazer from Lala Berlin, a white silk tank top from Belair Paris, kinda laced. Also, a dark Skinny jeans from Zara, that matches with the blazer. The choice of my outfit was due to the weather conditions in Canada, as the spring is still kind of chilly in April. The blazer kept me warm but still gave that clean cut and classic impression. I think the location that goes well with my outfit; city mainstream-chic. I really enjoyed this photoshoot. Hannah and Hayley really have an amazing talent. Not only they made this photoshoot fun for us, they also made it beautiful. Kimberly Hadad, 19, McGill University.”

Palace Retro Sweatshirt
Zara Biker Pants

“Didn’t want to go over-the-top with a whole bunch of heat, decided to wear a simple but well put-together outfit that I could wear on any day. Black on black on black is also never a bad move really.”
“The shoot in itself was really amazing as we explored the mile end where one can encounter an alternative style scene. I threw on my vintage bomber which symbolises my personality. A part of the outfit is inspired by an outfit by Steve McQueen which I came across a few years ago. I added in a pair of black jeans and polished Dr. Martens (spitshined of course) to dress it up a bit. The scarf is an additional touch to stay toasty.”
Canada Goose jacket
Emporio Armani T-shirt
Kuwalla tee pants
Casio G-shock watch
Reebok Pump kicks
“Personally I feel better about this photoshoot than the previous one because I’m much leaner now than before. Also, I have a little more experience about posing. Fashion is dictated by the combination of the items and the person wearing them, not by the brands.”
“Grimes and Playboi Carti influence me. Clothing for me is how it makes you feel more than how it makes you look.

“I love to throw a splash of colour into my outfits. It helps me avoid taking myself too seriously and it livens things up. We already have enough predictability in our lives, why not experiment a little?
The shoot was great, meeting everyone and being able to enjoy the nice spring weather! I always like to treat the street like the runway (especially when it’s warm out), so it was great getting to shoot outdoors in the heart of the city.”
